“Vinho Verde” might be my new go-to white
It was the color that drew me in, but while browsing a wine display in San Miguel Allende, I saw a number of “Vinho Verde” wines. So, yes, “green wine.” And indeed, to me, this wine does carry a light green and yellow hue - and immediately think of 7-up - and expected a simliar syrupy sweet experience.
What I found instead was a tongue-tingling cross of a Sauvignon Blanc and a sweet Moscato. Sweeter than a SB, lighter than a Pinot Grigio, and almost tangy. A beautiful tartness for me.
After some research I found that Vinho Verde is mostly found in Portugal, and is also popular in some South American countries.

Come to find out, larger wine and liquor stores have been selling this for quite some time, but it just hasn’t caught on in the States.
So, here I am, telling you to drop by Central Market, World Market, or anyplace with a large wine selection, and give these inexpensive whites a try. And enjoy the final days of this brutal Summer with a new favorite white!
This one is a terrific pick!
