LISTS

Puerto Vallarta

Food

A caveat - most of these places are found in Zona Romantica. I normally do not venture over to the hotel district, Nuevo, etc. Versailles is a hotbed of new restaurant activity as well, just don’t have many recommendations yet. But explore!

Tacos/Traditional/Mexican

Tuna Azul

Arguably the best seafood in Puerto Vallarta. A bit hard to find, and only accepts cash, but worth the trouble. Try the Tuna Mandatido - it’s amazing. And hey - FRIENDS DON’T LET FRIENDS EAT AT JOE JACK’S! ;)

Margarita Grill

One of the few super-touristy places on my list - but the margaritas are to die for. Seriously, the best in town. And the food is good enough. Go have a great time, get their amazing chips and salsa made table-side, and just enjoy the eye candy.

Marisma Fish Tacos

The best fish tacos you will EVER eat. Trust me on this one. Cash only. Outdoor seating only. Just go.

Panchos Takos

Everyone’s favorite. Not mine. But still delicious. A must-try, at least once. Brave the line, and enjoy!

El Santo Taco

Across the street from Panchos, I’d choose this lovely taqueria and skip the lines. Truly great food and friendly service.

Dining

Canto

Ok - yes, my friends own this spot, and you might be asking me “uhhh … Sean … Chinese food in Mexico?! Are you crazy?!” Yes, I am. But, that’s besides the point. The food and drinks are just spectacular. Personal, friendly service. You can’t go wrong here - especially when you tire of Mexican food. Visit on the weekend and get the Hong Kong Pork Chop. Don’t miss the best Paloma in town from Jeremy at the bar!

Mezcal Y Sal

A super funky, Oaxaca-style menu, with fantastic drinks, and more adventurous food.

Tintoque

One of PV’s nicer establishments (there are plenty) so be prepared to pay a premium. But the food is always wonderful, the setting is stunning, and a nice detour from the other mainstays.

D’ Cortes

An intimate and surprising spot in a funky area. And although I wasn’t terribly impressed the last time I visited, I think it was just an off night. I’ve always had a nice experience. A very romantic space, and a nice walk from Old Town.

Barcelona Tapas

Stunning view and wonderful, authentic, Spanish fare. Pricey - but worth it. A nice night out.

Cafe de Artistes

No trip is complete without a visit to the “queen” of PV dining - Cafe de Artistes. Always great food and service. First time to PV? It’s a must.

Other/Treats

AGAIN! Don’t be afraid of any street food. Will be some of the most satisfying meals you have. Follow your nose - and look for the lines.

Salchidogo

Another caveat - my friends also own this new little place. But you will be SHOCKED how tasty these Mexican-style sausages are, not to mention the yummy fries with your choice of seasonings. Don’t skip on the treats at the end either - dog bone-shaped sopapillas that will blow you away.

Elixir Mixology

A super-funky little bar with outstanding cocktails. Lesbian-owned, and catered, but everyone is welcome. My favorite drinks in PV!

Slice and Smash

Freaking awesome smash burgers from a cart in Old Town. Crazy good.

Chictini

I just love this cocktail bar on the roof of one of the Signature properties. Beautiful views - great cocktails - and a kick-ass happy hour!
